Wild Spirits Update

Wild Spirits Update

As you may know, I’m currently working on a trilogy of paranormal fantasy novels called the Wild Spirits trilogy. Because the first two books are set in Africa I’ve been spending a lot of time researching the swahili language, african wildlife, shamanism and african traditions, rituals, dress, food, work and leisure pursuits. I have finally finished plotting the first in the series, Roar of the Blood, so I now know what is supposed to be happening in each scene (although when I’m writing I like to go wherever the inspiration takes me, so I may deviate from it). I also […]

Wild Spirits Soundtrack

Wild Spirits Soundtrack

Lately whilst planning my first Wild Spirits novel, Roar in the Blood, I’ve4 had a number of different songs in my head that remind me of Africa, where the book is set. I’ve found that when I hear songs with an African tribal rythm it conjures up the atmosphere of my novel and inspires me to want to write. So it got me thinking of what the perfect soundtrack to my novel would be, and here’s what I came up with: So what about you? What would be the perfect soundtack to your current WiP?

First Christmas Poem

First Christmas Poem

Our breath is misting the frosty windows  And we draw pictures on the dripping pane.  You thread the baubles with your steady hands, As I pad across the prickly carpet, Balancing mugs of steaming hot chocolate. We warm icy hands on the crackling fire, Cutting and sticking in the candlelight.  We work in silence, not needing to speak. Frozen fingers snip at paper snowmen,  Holding hands and smiling, as we do now And so nearly didn’t. Glitter coats my lashes and the world sparkles. ~Written 06/10/2010

The Passing

The Passing

There was once a time When you wore your waves Of shimmering silk Like straw spun into gold, When you kissed with velvet lips, Embraced your love with Soft and supple arms, Enchanted all with eyes that shone like orbs of glass. But winter came to pass. Time, jealous of your vitality Comes like a thief in the night To snatch back the gifts That once he gave willingly, With gnarled and twisted claws. The eyes that once enchanted Fade like frosted pools, Your rosy apple cheeks Are hollowed to the core. With a shudder you feel him pass. He […]

Book Title Poetry

Book Title Poetry

Inspired by The Sorted Books Project, Grab a Pen and Write Brained, I decided to have a go at making poems out of book titles arranged in a certain way. It was great fun to do, and now I want to do more. During my 10 day holiday from work coming up soon I might go to the local library and make loads of poems like this, so expect lots more soon! Here are a few poems I made using the books in my living room. Just read down the book titles on the spines from top to bottom. Ah, […]

Poetry Rivals 2010 Published!

Poetry Rivals 2010 Published!

I was very excited this morning when the postman delivered a mysterious parcel…I opened it up and discovered two text-book sized copies of Poetry Rivals 2010: A New Dawn Breaks, the anthology featuring my poem, ‘Tess and the Priceless Treasure‘. It was so good seeing my name and poem printed in an actual book that I took photos to commemorate this momentous occasion. I haven’t had a chance to read through it all yet., but there are tons of poems in there by talented aspiring poets, so it’s well worth a read. If you’d like to buy a copy, it […]

Keeper of My Dreams Poem

Keeper of My Dreams Poem

You are the keeper of my dreams You are the guardian of my soul When I am hurt and torn to pieces You’re the only one to make me whole. You are the keeper of my dreams I know they’re safe there in your hands When I feel that everyone’s against me You’re the only one who understands. You are the keeper of my dreams I’ll never lose my faith in you When I lose my way and I am frightened You’re the one who’ll always see me through. You are the keeper of my dreams I feel protected when […]

Waxwork Poem

Waxwork Poem

I used to know a girl With a picture-perfect face, But somehow in each photo Her smile was out of place. There was something not quite right About the way she froze- Like a wooden mannequin In a mindless pose. She had a little work done, Nothing very drastic, But still her facial features Looked like they were plastic. A real life Barbie doll, I wonder what she felt? If she showed emotion Her waxwork face would melt. Her hair and her make up Always looked pristine, Like they were painted onto A china figurine. I think that if she […]
