I is for Indigo #AtoZChallenge

I is for Indigo #AtoZChallenge

Today I’m continuing with the A-Z Blogging Challenge. This year I’m doing an A-Z of Colours. I’ll be doing a variety of posts, including haikus and poems, arts and crafts, fashion and beauty, recipes and more!     For the letter ‘I’ I have chosen the colour Indigo. Indigo is a deep, bright shade of blue, named after the blue dye derived from the plant Indigoferatinctoria. It’s quite a popular colour in fashion, being the traditional colour of denim, and is the most common colour of ink used for writing. This Pinterest board has some beautiful examples of indigo.Keep reading to discover the […]

Book Blogger Love-a-Thon Mini Challenge 1: Book Spine Poetry

Book Blogger Love-a-Thon Mini Challenge 1: Book Spine Poetry

The first mini challenge for the 2014 Book Blogger Love-a-Thon is to make up a poem using only the spines of books. I’m late posting due to time differences so I’m not eligible to enter the competition, but I wanted to have a go anyway. I’ve done book spine poetry once before, back in November 2010. I find  it’s quite hard to work with the books I have as many of them are one-word titles, mostly nouns. Here’s what I came up with: Origin Legend The garden of unearthly delights,Desperation, delirium.Bad men wither the secret garden.Pandemonium, wicked crescendo,The wrath of […]

Knights of Microfiction (1) Trapped

Knights of Microfiction (1) Trapped

The Knights of MicroFiction is a bloghop hosted by Jess at Write, Skate Dream and Kathy at Imagine Today. It takes place on the 15th of every month (except April when everyone is busy with the A-Z challenge). It was designed as a way for bloggers to meet new friends in the blogging community and spark their creativity. Today’s prompt is: “Your character is trapped in a space (of your choice).  All they have with them is a broken coffee mug, an unlit candle and a cell phone with a dead battery.  What happens? Your entry cannot be longer than […]

First Campaigner Challenge: Shadows and Light Flash Fiction

First Campaigner Challenge: Shadows and Light Flash Fiction

I’ve been meaning to take part in Rachel Harrie’s First Campaigner Challenge all week now, but work and real life has kind of interfered, which is why I’m posting last minute. This was the challenge brief: Write a short story/flash fiction story in 200 words or less, excluding the title. It can be in any format, including a poem. Begin the story with the words, “Shadows crept across the wall”. These five words will be included in the word count.  If you want to give yourself an added challenge (optional), do one or more of these: end the story with […]

MC Name Ideas Needed!

MC Name Ideas Needed!

Okay guys, I need your advice on character names! The MC from my current work in progress is lacking a decent name. So far I’ve just been calling him ‘Ben’ but it’s not right. First I’ll tell you a little about him. He was born in Kenya to Kenyan parents but raised in New York, making him African-American. He’s 17-18 years old now, and the novel is set in present day so I need a name that fits for about 1993. Personality-wise he is brave, loyal, strong, protective and family-orientated but he has a short fuse and difficultry controlling his […]

Funfair Poem

Funfair Poem

I remember walking hand in hand,Feeling light as air,As if the balloons would lift me offAnd I’d soar without a care.I remember dancing on the twister,Carried by the beat,Lost in a dizzying whirl of colourIce-cream melting in the heat. I remember the bear you won for me,The bag of fudge we shared,I remember the giddy rush and thrillOf knowing how you cared.I remember sweet and sticky lips,Cotton candy kisses,Trying our luck on those penny stalls,So many near misses. Our love was like a rollercoaster,Ups and downs a trial. But the thrill of all the highsMade the lows worthwhile. But now it feels […]

A-Z Challenge: V is for Vulnerability

A-Z Challenge: V is for Vulnerability

Today I’m continuing with the A-Z Blogging Challenge. I’m doing an A-Z of human emotions, feelings and mental states and today is the letter V and so I’ve decided to writea poem with the subject of Vulnerability. Vulnerability is feeling that you are weak, defenseless, exposed and open to attack. Most of us feel mildly vulnerable at some times in our lives- when we are undermined by our confident colleagues in the boardroom, when we have to cross the road without a pedestrian crossing, when we’re wearing our swimming costume and it feels like everyone is staring. But some people […]

Hatched Poem

Hatched Poem

Snugly cocooned in a ball of warmth,Stillness and darkness envelopes me. All I can hear is my own heartbeat,Slow and steady and comforting. But now it starts to flutter,Racing excitedly, waking meFrom my peaceful slumber. My body senses that it’s time. I wriggle about in agitation,Getting hot and flustered. The air is not filling my lungs,I start to panic, writhing wildly. My home, my sanctuary for weeksHas become a prison.I long to break free-To stretch my tiny wings. But my limbs are weak and puny,I struggle against the fragile shell-A concrete wall to me.My beak taps urgently, franticallyUntil at last a little crack appears.I push […]
