Writer’s block can come on because of stress, outside distractions or a fear of failure, but sometimes it strikes for no obvious reason and always seems to be at the worst possible time. You find yourself staring at a blank page or screen trying to come up with ideas for your latest project, getting more and more frustrated because nothing good enough is spring to mind. Today I’m sharing my tips for getting your creative juices flowing again. These activities probably won’t result in a big writing epiphany, but they’re designed to get you to play and experiment with ideas, which should […]
Soap making is one of my favourite hobbies, and recently I decided to mix things up by creating some soap cupcakes for my friend’s birthday. This month I’ve been thinking about the ways the beach can inspire us. It can be a great place to go to clear your mind as you listen to the sound of the waves, and the beautiful scenery can give you ideas for art projects. Many adore the crimson rose, Her striking beauty, classic pose, But I prefer the bewitching aroma, Of modesty and gothic glamour. There is more to her on closer inspection, Mystery shrouds her dark complexion Her secret spell is an ancient art, Her […]
One morning, Tess from Little Dell Was washing clothes beside the well, When Anna, Jane and Cecily Ran towards her full of glee. “Look upon our golden rings! See our shiny, handsome things. The market stalls are filled with gold, Hurry, before the best is sold!” Tess packed a bag and hurried down, To see the fair from out of town, Where travellers showed exotic wares, Shining, sparkling traps and snares. Some were pearl (so overrated), Others gold (most likely plated). Nothing special caught her eye, So with a shrug, she passed on by. Returning on […]
The leafy canopy gleams with dew, As shafts of sunlight filter through, Ancient oak entwined with new, Lost in a springtime sea of blue. ~A V Brown, March 2010
