For more information, please read the full disclosure.   Last night we went to a 1940s dance at Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. It’s the largest bomber command museum in England and the only place in the country you can see a Lancaster Bomber on an original wartime airfield.     We’ve been to the dance a few times before and always enjoy it. There is a live big band and everyone dresses up […]

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

It’s finally Christmas Eve and Santa will soon be on his way. I’ll be taking a break from blogging over the next few days to spend some time with my family. I hope to be back soon, but all will depend on when my baby decides to make an appearance. I’m one day overdue now, so it could happen at any time! We’re hoping for one last peaceful Christmas before the sleepless nights begin, but we shall see! Wish me luck and I will be back with an update soon, hopefully. In the meantime, I wish all my readers and […]

My Top Ten Christmas Films

My Top Ten Christmas Films

One of my favourite things to do at this time of year is to get cosy on the sofa in my pyjamas (preferably with a nice mug of hot chocolate) and put on a fun, festive film to get me in the mood for Christmas. There are so many Christmas films around now, but I always seem to come back to my old favourites and it just doesn’t feel like Christmas without them. Below is a list of my top ten Christmas film recommendations. I hope you enjoy. 1) Santa Claus (1985) The original Santa Claus movie starring David Huddleston, Judy […]

Triple Chocolate Christmas Cookies!

Triple Chocolate Christmas Cookies!

Yesterday I felt like doing some Christmas baking so I had a go at making some triple chocolate cookies. They turned out pretty well, even if I do say so myself. Kids would easily be able to join in with this recipe and the cookies would make nice gifts for family and friends if decorated and boxed. Below is the recipe I used: Equipment Measuring scales2-3 baking trays2 mixing bowls2 mixing spoonsWhiskTeaspoonSieveSpatula or knifeRolling pinChristmas cookie cutters (or a sharp knife) Ingredients 200g softened butter 300g soft brown sugar 300g self-raising flour 300g milk chocolate chips, M&Ms or smarties  80g […]

Halloween Party Ideas

Halloween Party Ideas

Last year I threw my first proper Halloween party (as I surprise for my husband, whose birthday is a couple of days before) and it was a blast! I got tons of ideas for cheap home-made decorations and spooky party food from Pinterest. Sorry in advance about the quality of the photos in this post; my phone does not do well in semi-darkness! The Decor The decorations were really fun and easy to do. I bought some cheap ones from the local pound shop, including themed tablecloths, plastic skeletons, ghost balloons, black and orange banners, a colour changing pumpkin and […]

Which Literary Monster Are You?

Which Literary Monster Are You?

Happy Halloween! Today I’ve been thinking about literary monsters, from mythological creatures such as Medusa to classics like Dracula and more modern horrors like Pennywise from Stephen King’s It. As someone with coulrophobia, the latter absolutely terrifies me. My favourite monster has to be Frankenstein’s monster-a poor, misunderstood creature who is the perfect example of the ‘noble savage’ archetype. His creator, Victor Frankenstein, is arguably the real monster of the story. Earlier I took this fun quiz made by Grammarly, a free online grammar checker. I got Dracula. “Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” is one of the most iconic monsters in popular culture. […]

Here are some of my favourite spine-tingling classics and modern paranormal reads.  If you like vampires… If you like werewolves… If you like zombies… If you like demons… If you like ghosts… If you like monsters… If you like witches… What’s your favourite horror or paranormal book?

Holiday in Poland Part I: The Wedding, Czarny Staw and Zgierz

Holiday in Poland Part I: The Wedding, Czarny Staw and Zgierz

In August I travelled to Poland for my friend Milena’s wedding. I’d never been before so I didn’t really know what to expect. But it was a fantastic experience and I’d definitely like to go back.  Over the next two days I’m going to talk about the places we visited and share some of my photos. I hope you’ll join me for the journey! Czarny Staw Hotel The flight to Łódź Władysław Reymont Airport was about 2 hours 15 minutes, so not too bad. I’m a very nervous flier but the journey there wasn’t a problem. The wedding reception was held at Czarny […]
