Review: Show & Tell in a Nutshell by Jessica Bell

Review: Show & Tell in a Nutshell by Jessica Bell

Show & Tell in a Nutshell: Demonstrated Transitions from Telling to Showing by Jessica Bell My rating: 5 of 5 stars  One of the most common pieces of advice given to aspiring writers is to ‘show, not tell’. But what exactly does this mean? The phrase is repeated throughout countless blogs, articles and writing handbooks, yet it is seldom explained in enough detail to be beneficial. For a long time, I had the vague notion that it encouraged writers to explain a character’s actions rather than to describe their thoughts and feelings, but I never fully understood how I could […]

The Aether Chronicles: Join the Airship Squadron!

The Aether Chronicles: Join the Airship Squadron!

Today I’m excited to announce that I’ve joined the Aether Chronicles Airship Squadron-a street team dedicated to promoting The Aether Chronicles series by Suzanne Lazear. For those who aren’t familiar with it (where have you been?), it’s a steampunk fantasy series featuring faeries! Here’s some more info from Goodreads: Innocent Darkness Sixteen-year-old Noli Braddock’s hoyden ways land her in an abusive reform school far from home. On mid-summer’s eve she wishes to be anyplace but that dreadful school. A mysterious man from the Realm of Faerie rescues her and brings her to the Otherworld, only to reveal that she must be […]

Crewel Street Team Update (1) T Shirt Design

Crewel Street Team Update (1) T Shirt Design

I’m so thrilled to be on the Soul Spinsters street team to promote Gennifer Albin’s upcoming novel Crewel. For the past week I’ve been taking part in a number of challenges to promote the book and it’s been so much fun. Today I designed a T-shirt to show my team spirit. What do you think? Before today I hadn’t sewn a stitch in about ten years, so I’m pretty proud of myself. I used gold sequins and neon fabric markers to decorate it. Not too shoddy, methinks.Today round one of our street team challenges end, and I’m looking forward to […]
