Badge for Top Ten Tuesday meme

It’s time for Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme originally created by The Broke and the Bookish and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week there is a new topic or theme to base your top ten list on. You can find more details about it and see the list of topics here.

I have to admit, my attention span is pretty short these days so I don’t read huge novels very often. Books around 300-400 pages are ideal for me, so this list is made up of books with a page count of 500 or more. Needless to say, many of these are Harry Potter books! Somehow I read Deathly Hallows in one sitting. Now I struggle to read a couple of chapters of anything without falling asleep!

While I was searching for my long books, I discovered that the longest novel in the world is Artamène ou le GrandCyrus, which is a whopping 13,095 pages split into 10 volumes! I feel tired just thinking about reading that!

This list might not be totally accurate because I had to go by number of pages and some of my hardbacks are written in a bigger font. I’m also not sure if the data from Goodreads is legit.

  1. A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin (802 pages)
  2. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (766 pages)
  3. Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer (756 pages)
  4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling (636 pages)
  5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (607 pages)
  6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K Rowling (607 pages)
  7. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor (536 pages)
  8. Allegiant by Veronica Roth (526 pages)
  9. Insurgent by Veronica Roth (525 pages)
  10. Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (525 pages)

And of course, there’s Far From the Madding Crowd, which is a mere 433 pages but feels like it’s about 433,000 pages.

Before you go…

What’s the longest book you’ve ever read? Do you enjoy reading long novels?
